A School That Starts with Understanding Your Child
Choosing a specialist school means finding a setting that understands both your child’s needs and their potential.
At Blooming Tree, we begin with their strengths, interests, communication and current learning skills. We look carefully at what helps them engage, what they find difficult and which next steps will make the greatest difference to their everyday life.
Teaching is built around this understanding. Our use of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) helps us break skills into achievable steps, recognise progress and adjust support when something is not working. Learning takes place through lessons, play, routines and everyday interactions—not only at a teaching table.
What Support Looks Like at Blooming Tree
One-to-One Teaching Throughout the Day
Each pupil receives individual support to access their learning programme. This sits alongside opportunities to participate in shared activities, play and group learning. Our aim is to help children develop skills they can use with different people and in different situations.
Programmes Led by Behaviour Analysts
Our BCBA consultants oversee individual programmes, review progress and guide the staff working with each child. Teaching decisions are informed by ongoing assessment and learning data, so support can respond to the child rather than remain fixed.
Education and Therapy Working Together
Our multidisciplinary team brings together behavioural expertise, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy. These perspectives help us address communication, sensory needs, participation and independence as connected parts of a child’s education.
Small Groups and Predictable Routines
We provide a structured learning environment with small groups and consistent routines. Within that structure, children receive support tailored to how they communicate, engage and respond to the demands of the school day.
An Individualised Curriculum with Meaningful Goals
Our curriculum combines academic learning with communication, social development, emotional wellbeing and practical independence. We adapt learning to each child’s developmental profile while maintaining ambitious, achievable goals.
Communication and Interaction
Developing ways to express needs, make choices, understand others and participate in shared experiences.
Academic Learning
Building foundations in reading, writing, number and wider curriculum knowledge, with teaching adapted to the pupil’s starting point.
Emotional Wellbeing and Independence
Supporting children to understand and express feelings, manage everyday situations and develop practical skills for life beyond the classroom.
We use assessment and ongoing observation to identify next steps, drawing on specialist tools and the Competent Learner Model where appropriate. Progress is not only about completing a task: we also consider whether a child can use the skill more independently and beyond the original teaching activity.
Early Years and Primary Education
Early Years: Ages 3–5
Our early years programme focuses on communication, play, engagement and the foundations for learning. Teaching is shaped around each child’s developmental stage, with individual support to help them participate in activities and everyday routines.
Primary: Ages 5–11
Our primary programme develops academic skills alongside social understanding, emotional regulation and independence. Children learn through individual teaching, supported group activities and opportunities to practise skills throughout the school day.
The programme changes as the child progresses, with regular review of their targets and the support they need.

Working with Your Family
You know your child in ways that no assessment can capture. Your observations, priorities and experiences are an important part of planning their education.
We work with parents and carers to review progress, discuss goals and share practical strategies. Parent guidance and training help families understand the approaches used at school and how relevant skills can be supported at home.
We ask families to take an active role in their child’s programme. This means working collaboratively with the school, sharing what is and is not helping, and building consistency around agreed goals.
Could Blooming Tree Be Right for Your Child?
We welcome enquiries about children with autism, communication difficulties, learning delays and social, emotional or behavioural support needs.
A formal diagnosis is not required for an initial placement enquiry. We consider the child’s individual profile and whether our provision can meet their needs.
Our admissions priorities focus on younger children, typically under seven. Enquiries for older primary-aged children are considered individually, taking account of their existing learning skills and suitability for the programme.
Admissions and Next Steps
We consider local-authority-funded EHCP placements and privately funded placements. An EHCP is not required for a private placement.
The first step is to contact our admissions team. We will explain the information needed, discuss your child’s needs and guide you through the next stages, including a school visit where appropriate. A placement offer follows our assessment of whether the school can meet those needs.
Let’s Talk About Your Child
Tell us about your child, what is working for them and where more support is needed. Together, we can explore whether Blooming Tree is the right setting for their next stage of learning.
